Ulrike Bernard swarmed into the countryside to help design an "outdoor kitchen" in the Haus des Wandels, which will emerge in the transition between indoors and outdoors, between cooking space and experimental space, between setting and shed, between main area and distillery, between functionality and artistic gesture, between dumplings and tea, in the process and through the habits of its users. In the future, the many different (working) groups that come to the Haus des Wandels will be able to look after themselves here, meet each other and possibly continue to shape the space over time.
Over the summer/autumn of 2023, intergenerational artistic-environmental educational workshops and gatherings will take place in and around this space. Joint cooking sessions, experimental textile herbariums, immune-boosting (medicinal) herbal drinks and the construction of a DIY sun cooker and brick oven will be the first activations of the "outdoor kitchen", which is more than an "outdoor kitchen" and only finds its name in joint action.
WORKSHOP DATES
Ulrike Bernard is a visual artist and is active in environmental education fields and cultural education. Within artistic settings that she conceives for outdoor spaces, she implements the reading format "Etwas wagen (Herz, Hand, Verstand)", in which she introduces ecofeminists, environmental activists and biologists (e.g. at Gartenarbeitsschule Tempelhof - Schöneberg ´21, Floating University and Seeding Freedom Festival '22). As the artist duo Polyphrenic Creatures, she realised together with Amelie Marei Löllmann, audiowalks in public space, live audiodramas and dialogical sound works, which were most recently conceived for the New Alphabet School, #4 Caring, HKW Berlin and the Arthur Boskamp Stiftung in Hohenlockstedt (2020). As part of the multi-year artistic residency A.T.E.N.A in the South of France, she is taking on the co-realisation (with Lise Chevalier) of an outdoor artistic studio with a Mediterranean garden as well as the development of an (environmental) educational programme, in addition to her own artistic project. Ulrike Bernard has completed an intensive course in phytotherapy and has been giving artistic - environmental educational workshops for several years, including at the Tempelhof - Schöneberg gardening school in Berlin.
